When a person has come up with a brilliant idea and has written that idea on the internet for the whole world to see then you can get in big trouble if you take their idea and write it down as your own. The reason you can get in trouble is because this was not your idea. When you take somebody else’s idea and write it down you must give them credit and write down their name after that to show that you are using somebody else’s idea. When it comes to pictures on the other hand most pictures are not allowed to be copyrighted because if that picture was taken by somebody else then you must Photoshop the picture and make it look different in order for you to use it. The reason that we were allowed to use the pictures from the internet for our project was because it was for educational purposes. It was fair use of the copyrighted material because we used the pictures for class. Even if we didn’t Photoshop all the pictures that we used they were still under fair use for educational purposes. Section 107 in the Copyright Act of 1976 states that limitations on exclusive rights fair use for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship or research. Fair use also embraces the modifying of existing media content, placing it in a new content. Also when you use copyrighted material you must change it around you can just use the exact same thing. You have to think about the natures of the material, the purpose, the amount and the affect. You must think about all of these things before using copyrighted material. Think about if you really transformed the image or just copyrighted the image. When using a copyrighted material you must either change it around and have a purpose for using that material or make sure you give credit to the person that created it first instead of saying this was your idea.

Reflection 3
My partner Adrian and I worked together for project number one. Our topic was the current Hipster, Skater, Hip-Hop culture. We talked about the changes of style and fashion throughout the years. First we had a picture that we got off an old high website and it shows their dress code and what not to wear. The teenage generation used to wear long baggy with their underwear pulled up so it could be visible. The bandanas and head wraps were also a popular accessory. Slim sneakers are preferred nowadays instead of the big & husky Timberland boots. Another old school trend coming back are the snap back hats, instead of the usual fitteds.
Another picture we had was a collage of Disney characters and Hitler wearing nerdy hipster glasses. A really popular accessory for this culture is the nerdy hipster glasses. Hipsters tend to be well educated and often have liberal arts degrees, or degrees in maths and sciences. This is another reason that they are often seen wearing these thick rimmed glasses. Since hipsters are said to reject the mainstream society, many internet memes appeared where somebody has the thick rimmed glasses on and is considered an independent thinker, apart from the crowd. Our third picture we have another collage of basketball players wearing with nerdy hipster glasses just as an accessory since they are popular now days.
Our fourth picture showed how fashion changed over the years. Back in 2000 if a dude wore tight pants with his belt or key chain showing and a really tight shirt he was most likely considered ‘emo’. Copying the styles of celebrities like Ashton Kutcher & Kanye West, accessories like scarfs, glasses, and hats came into the picture. Our last picture was a collage of Lil Wayne and Wizz Khalifa because Lil Wayne is wearing the nerdy hipster glasses and he has tattoos all over him and so does Wizz Khalifa. A lot of hip-hop artists are promoting this Hipster/Skater independent look nowadays including Wiz-Khalifa, Lil Wayne, and Chris Brown. Tyga is also super tatted and said he’s bringing snap-backs back.
We got a lot of positive feedback from our class. They said that it was an interesting PowerPoint with funny pictures and it kept them entertained while learning some new things. We also got some negative feedback about not doing too much photo shopping to the pictures. The reason for that is because we both didn’t know how to use photo shop. The skills that I really want to improve in this class are to learn how to master Photoshop and Final Cut Pro. I want to become really good at using both of these programs because they really interest me.
My idea for the final project is to use different clips of the joker from the batman movie and use clips from new stories about the Colorado movie theater shooting at the batman premier and create a positive video out of it. I want this video to show how the Media can really affect how we think and how the media puts fear in our eyes because it’s a way to show control. This video is also going to show how the things we watch on TV makes certain people think that they can act like what they see. The movies they watch become their reality and Media really affects some of our actions. We learn how we should act, dress, talk, and eat through the Media and this has a really big effect on our youth.
